Understanding FFL Visual Merchandising Flow

Store View rod racks and gondolas

In most stores, the big draws are in the back of the building. When you go to the grocery store for just a gallon of milk, you have to walk to the back wall before you can get to it. And you usually end up with a shopping cart full of other items to bring home by the time you return to the front to check out. This is because grocery stores are excellent at using visual merchandising flow. These same tactics can work with all retailers.

By psychologically connecting with your customers, you can lead them where you want them to go. Utilize your floorplan to your advantage. Use the main Drive Aisle in your store in association with Strike Points such as endcaps and seasonal feature aisles, to move more products and increase your sales.

Most shoppers enter the store and continue walking straight, or make a right hand turn. They stick to the main aisles that wrap around the store like a racetrack (Drive Aisles) until they veer off to check an endcap or are drawn to a large sign on the back wall. Use these facts to your advantage! Make sure you have quality endcap displays and store signage to guide your customers. Read more about our 5 Rules for Merchandising Endcaps.

We recommend you periodically walk through your front doors and try to act like a new customer. Analyze your signage, drive-aisle, and endcaps and look for ways to improve them! Contact Mike or Danielle to speak with the experts at creating merchandising solutions.
